Beyond Off Grid

Garden Planning to Feed Your Family

Supplying real food to keep your family healthy is imperative, especially when you find yourself in a crisis, whether it’s the loss of a job, a natural disaster, or a manmade emergency.    Even in the day to day, healthy food should be a priority and there’s no better way to provide fresh, healthy food to your family than by growing it in your own garden.

Join this training to learn how to plan your garden to optimize your food production and thereby become less dependent on the modern food system with food producers that may be hundreds or thousands of miles away.

In this training session, we will cover:

  • How to plan and position a new garden plot
  • How to calculate the amount of space available using various gardening methods
  • How to use your last average frost date to plan your seed starting and transplanting
  • How to optimize the use of your available garden space to maximize production
  • How to use successive plantings to keep fresh produce coming all season long
  • How to plan to preserve the harvest and not waste any of your garden bounty

Your instructor is Jason Matyas, producer of the Beyond Off Grid project, homesteader, and lifelong gardener who with his wife and seven children grow most of the produce that they consume each year.
