Linda Holliday, a writer for the Prepper Journal, an online survival and sustainable living magazine, wrote a great article about Beyond Off Grid. The journal goes into detail on how the documentary was inspired, who is involved in making it, and what impact it can have on a broader audience.

It explains one of Sean’s early inspirations for the film – the book Henry and the Great Society, by H.L. Roush.  The story revolves around an independent, simple-living family whose life is overwhelmed and eventually succumbed by the great interconnected grid of society.  Sean is quoted as saying, “This film is about living in such a way that we’re less dependent on outside entities,” Sean states.

Linda continues by outlining some of the key subjects of the documentary.  Michael Bunker, agrarian author, adds his expertise as a longtime survivalist and scholar on the subject. Another expert mentioned is Rick Austin, a radio show host on the Preparedness Radio Network, who has developed an expertise in camouflaging gardens and permacultures. Linda also mentions Cody Crone, whose Wranglerstar YouTube channel has a large following, and Scott Howard, a home builder who uses natural building materials.  Also mentioned are Paul Wheaton of permies.com, a permaculture expert, and Majorie Wildcraft, a former financial consultant turned author on gardening and sustainability.  Linda’s husband Darrell, an inventor and expert on manual well water pumps, will also be featured in the film.

Executive Producer Jason Matyas, founder of True Food Solutions, says that the documentary is crucial considering the current state of the US economy and unemployment. “Government policies are only making it worse,” Matyas explains, “Unless people are growing their own food and establishing networks now with their neighbors to develop their local economy, life is going to be increasing difficult as the economy worsens.”
